Mercy Corps, An International Humanitarian Organization is looking for a suitable candidate to fill a very strategic position within our Engaging Communities for Peace in Nigeria (ECPN)  , and based out of Sokoto, Northern Nigeria. We are looking for a motivated individual, who is enthusiastic about the work we do and is looking to work within a dynamic team.

 Position: Program Officer - Engaging Communities for Peace in Nigeria (ECPN)

The Program Officer will support the implementation of activities related to capacity building for leaders in negotiation and dispute resolution, facilitation and implementation of quick impact projects and joint economic development projects, the facilitation of community conflict prevention meetings, and other activities as needed. The Project Officer will also provide support to all other activities related to the ECPN program and will ensure smooth, timely, and compliant implementation.  The Project Officer will liaise frequently with community members and represent Mercy Corps to local leaders.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills in the local cultural environment.
  • Familiarity with community-based peacebuilding initiatives, good personality and reputation, dynamic, committed, and dedicated to the work.
  • Responds positively to feedback and differing points of view.
  • Fluency in Hausa and English, both written and spoken.
  • BA/S or equivalent in conflict management, social sciences, international development or other relevant field (Masters preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in the non-profit sector in conflict management/peacebuilding, community development, or economic and market development.
  • Experience working in rural areas in Nigeria, particularly in the Middle Belt.
  • Experience working in a multi-organizational team (international and national partners) is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English required, including report development, writing and editing.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members

 Position: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Assistant – Engaging Communities for Peace in Nigeria (ECPN)

JOB SUMMARY
The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Assistant will ensure that MEL systems, procedures, performance monitoring and results reporting are in place, effectively implemented and well synchronized. The MEL Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Program Manager and MEL Advisor to ensure that program decisions are based on quality, up-to-date evidence and will promote an atmosphere of constant learning within the project team. The MEL Assistant could travel frequently and be provisionally based different middle-belt states at different times.

REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in a multi-organizational team (international and national partners) is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English required, including report development, writing and editing.
  • Computers skills – word-processing and spreadsheets experience required.  Computer database experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
  • Prior experience of carrying out surveys, conducting interviews, and undertaking assessments
  • Fluency in Hausa and English, both written and spoken.
  • BA/S or equivalent in conflict management, social sciences, international development or other relevant field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in the non-profit sector in monitoring and evaluation, ideally in conflict management/peacebuilding, community development, or economic and market development.
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative indicators and measurement strategies for collecting data regarding both types of indicators. 
  • Experience working in rural areas in Nigeria, particularly in the Middle Belt.

 Position: Driver – on our Engaging Communities for Peace in Nigeria (ECPN)

Program / Department Summary: 
The Driver will work within the Operations department, committed to provide reliable and compliant support to program activities on Engaging Communities for Peace in Nigeria (ECPN) in order to achieve efficient service to program beneficiaries.

General Position Summary: 
The driver will provide safe, transport services for our Mercy Corps program on Engaging Communities for Peace in Nigeria (ECPN) and support staff in the described Area of Responsibility. The driver will adhere to all traffic and Mercy Corps safety rules and follow the transport guidelines required by the Mercy Corps Nigeria transport department.

REQUIREMENTS:    

  •     Must respect and adhere to all safety and traffic rules.
  •    Basic understanding of English and fluency in Hausa languages is required.
  •     At least a First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC)
  •     Valid driver’s license and experience driving 4×4 vehicles.
  •     Knowledge of routes, duty stations, project areas, the NGO and diplomatic community is required.
  •     Proven driving skills a must and previous experience acting as a driver for an NGO or company is strong preferred.
