Job description

SITUATION IN ORGANISATION

-Position reports to the Senior Medical Officer who reports to the Chief Medical Officer .JOB Dimensions1

- The MO is in charge to apply the politic defined by the CMO in accordance with the medical policies of the Company.

-Ensure the provision of high standards medical and health services in PHC for all collaborators and their dependants (including all retirees and spouses) and contracted staff in case of emergency during their job.

-The MO ensures evaluation, treatment and follow-up of all patients including medical referrals, emergencies, and supervise medical staff to carry out their functions in HSE compliant ways.

-Hierarchical supervisory role/functional guidance of about 15 subordinate staff.

Activities

-Provide adequate medical attention/treatment of staff and dependants in Port-Harcourt.

-Execute pre-employment and annual medical check-ups of all categories of staff.

-Receive and take in charge of all medical emergencies.

-Identify and monitor the follow up of patients admitted in external clinics.

-Monitor the quality/performance of company retained clinics by delegation.

-Professional exchange with the various Nigerians Health Bodies and Medical Organisations.

-Supervise Occupational Health activities and promote awareness of acceptable health practices in TEPNG.

-Promotion/Instruction of First Aid.

-Responsible for medical assets in Port-Harcourt.

-Carries out any other duties/projects that may be assigned to him by the Hierarchy.

-Generate monthly report to the SMO on all aspects of medical services.

Objectives:

-Promote medical care and acceptable health practices within controlled & rationalized annual budget.

-Monitor the quality of medical services/care rendered by our external clinics within a controlled budget.Means: in-house clinic with an emergency room, laboratory, and X-ray room, dedicated qualified professional staff and relevant non-professional staff.

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

Liaison with Nigerian bodies health authorities and all other Divisions/Entities in the Company/Group.

-On 7days/24hours call when on duty as Weekly Medical Doctor.

-The position works in tandem with other professionals of the Division for effective provision of services and looks up to the hierarchy for direction on policy matters.

Environmental difficulties can arise from unrealistic/unreasonable expectations and demands from clientele.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Accountable of inaccurate diagnoses and inappropriate treatment and decisions which could considerably endanger life or worsen existing medical conditions.

- Accountable for healthy workforce in the Company and healthy living practice amongst staff and dependants.- Providing of effective medical treatment to beneficiaries in order to reduce overall lost time due to injuries and diseases.

- Controlling the limit of expenditures from unnecessary referrals and monitor the abuses of retained clinics and specialists, thereby ultimately reducing cost of medical services.

- Responsible for validation fitness (staff annual medical check-up).

-Carries out any other duties/projects that may be assigned to him/her by the Hierarchy.

Required skills

-Education: Doctorate in Medicine, qualified as Physician specialised in Tropical Medicine and Emergency.

-Strong abilities in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Medical Management

Experience

At least 10 years of post qualification experience as medical practitioner with a sound knowledge of Occupational/Tropical Health Medicine and Emergency Resuscitation.

An international exposure would be an added advantage.
