Hausa Translator Job Vacancy At A USAID-Funded Project

A USAID-funded project in northern Nigeria aimed at strengthening state and local government capacity to deliver basic education services by addressing key issues in the management, sustainability, and oversight of basic education as well as increasing access of orphans and vulnerable children to basic education and services such as health information and counseling is seeking the following short term consultants:

Job Title: Hausa Translator

Objectives of Consultancy

  •     Translate short story pieces into Hausa for publication in news publications
  •     Translate and proofread project news bulletins into Hausa for public use.
  •     Ensure that project news bulletins translated into Hausa meet the highest standards of quality and consistency in Hausa writing.


Consultant Qualification and Skill Set

  •     Minimum of a masters degree in Hausa, liberal arts or social sciences.
  •     Experience in editing articles, books or publications in Hausa.
  •     Proofreading experience in Hausa that is clearly error-free.
  •     Attention to detail and outstanding command of writing Hausa for low-literate publics.
  •      Minimum of 10 years experience working in the Hausa service section of newspaper, magazine, radio or TV, or the Hausa department of a higher institution.
  •     At least five samples of documents translated from English to Hausa.
