Job Title: Senior Manager - Enterprise Risk Management, Risk and Compliance

Mission

  • Effectively identify, evaluate, manage, introduce defensive safeguards, and monitor the performance thereof against all variations of potential risk exposures, both of an internal and external nature (strategic, operational, financial, compliance, liquidity, product and market, political, economic, reputational, etc.).

Description

  • Lead the introduction of a robust, comprehensive risk management model or framework in all areas of the business (ERM, BCM, CRM, insurance, etc.).
  • Collaborate in building and entrenching a risk-aware culture by formulating Risk Management education content and arranging appropriate briefings and trainings.
  • Implement Group Risk Management strategies, frameworks, policies, and procedures in line with the overarching business goals and ensure that the OpCo maintains and improves its Risk Management leadership positioning and reputation.
  • Oversee risk assessments, evaluation of risks, mitigation of risks, and ownership in all business units. Support the business in implementing functional risk registers that will enable the development and maintenance of an OpCo risk register.
  • Identify, consolidate, and report anomalies, common risks, and future potential risks.
  • Ensure accurate updating of risk items identified on the risk management system (eGRC).
  • Define the standards and set targets for performance across various activities, and identify the parameters for measuring performance.
  • Set up and participate in ad hoc and operational meetings.
  • Participate and provide input in tactical meetings.
  • Report at the executive, process, and functional levels.
  • Review and identify key risks, issues, and dependencies, and set mitigation actions.
  • Ensure implementation of the Group Risk Escalation and Acceptance Policy; furthermore:
  • Manage and resolve escalations that have an impact on the critical path of service delivery.
  • Escalate issues in line with the Group Risk Escalation and Acceptance Policy
  • Manage and provide solutions to issues that require formal resolution.
  • Actively ensure the identification of risks associated with existing or new processes and take measures to introduce adequate controls within the operational business processes.
  • Provide feedback on any challenges to the executive to facilitate continuous improvement and mitigate risks.
  • Facilitate enterprise-wide risk assessments, mitigation, and ownership in all business units across MTNN, including the annual principal risk assessment workshop with Excom, in line with the Group ERM framework.
  • Ensure that eGRC (a risk management system or tool) is implemented and fully utilized to automate the risk management process within MTN Nigeria.
  • Perform in-depth evaluations of key risks within the organization and assist the business in developing prevention strategies and business continuity plans.
  • Provide input into the development of procedures and processes for crisis prevention and management.
  • Facilitate the implementation of a defined project and product risk management framework and provide ongoing risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting to the stakeholders.
  • Support the insurance unit in its implementation of insurance risk management per the group framework.
  • Regularly monitor and review the resources of the department, ensuring they are allocated and utilized in a cost-effective and financially disciplined manner.
  • Provide training to management and staff on risk matters and train them on the use of eGRC software.
  • Facilitate the application of the risk maturity model across selected risk specialty areas.
  • Conduct annual scenario planning and stress testing of the business plan.
  • Development of risk management strategies, road maps, and risk appetite for the OpCo.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure staff motivation is high to achieve high performance areas.
  • Ensure skill transfer for staff development, motivation, and mentorship.

Requirements
Education:

  • Minimum of 3 year Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Operational Management, Business, or Finance
  • Professional qualification in risk management is advantageous (IRM, IIA, CRMA, PRM, CRISC).
  • Fluent in English (French as an advantage).

Experience:

  • 9 - 17 years work experience, which includes:
  • 5-8 years of risk management experience, with at least 3 years in enterprise risk or risk management at the managerial level in a medium- to large-sized organization.
  • Experience in risk assessments is mandatory.
  • Experience working across diverse cultures and geographies is advantageous.
  • Understanding the risk environments for the telco industry sector is advantageous.
  • Understanding emerging markets is advantageous.
