The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the position below at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.

Job Title: Research Technician I

Job Location: Ibadan and Ubiaja

Type: 2 year renewable contract

Responsibilities

Assist with hybridization and data collection in Ibadan and at outstations including Ubiaja
Maintain records for hybridization, processing, packaging and storage of hybridized seed
Assist set up and conduct field experiments including all aspects of data collection
Serve on teams for determination of dry matter content and root mealiness
Assist in the multiplication of selected cassava genotypes
Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes.

Required Qualification and Experience

Ordinary National Diploma in Crop Production, General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic.
Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar position.
Basic knowledge of crop management operations.
Good time management skills.
Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
