RS Hunter Limited is recruiting to fill the following position:
Job Title: Intermediate Database Administrator
Job Location: Lagos
Responsibilities
- The management of key company databases for optimum business operations and to assure stakeholders of integrity and security of data and recover-ability in times of disaster. Personnel are also to offer application back end support as well as programming
- Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security
- monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users;
- installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS);
- maintaining data standards, including adherence to the company information security policies;
- writing database documentation, including data standards, data mappings, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
- controlling access permissions and privileges;
- Developing, managing and testing back-up, replication and recovery plans;
- ensuring that storage, archiving, replication, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
- capacity planning;
- working closely with Operations service managers, programmers and web developers;
- communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
- commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
- Working closely with vendors to develop and test patches to reported application or database problems
- Adhoc database programming and reporting as may be required.
- Providing application and user support
- Other tasks as may be assigned by HOD
Key Performance Indicators
- Database Availability
- Adherence to authorization chain before creation or modification of database objects
- Adequacy of CMDB operations
- Adequacy of versioning and change control mechanisms
- Adequacy and efficiency of Maintenance plans
- Adequacy of DR plans and processes
- Documentation of Vendor details and SLAs
- Application uptime & support parameters
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Numerical Sciences.
- Minimum 3 year experience with MS SQL Server 2005/2008 Enterprise or higher.
- Familiarity with other RDBMs like Oracle, MySQL etc is helpful.
- Knowledge of high availability system configurations such as RAID, SAN, Storage switches and network switches us desired.
- Knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems & networking
- Knowledge of Database Partitioning, indexing and Tuning
