Job Description
IFDC is a public international organization governed by an international board of directors with representation from developed and developing nations. The non-profit Center focuses on increasing and sustaining food and agricultural productivity in developing countries through the development and transfer of effective and environmentally sound crop nutrient technology and agribusiness expertise.

IFDC plans to recruit a Regional Agribusiness Coordinator in North and West Africa to lead the regional implementation of a market development project involving identification, development and implementation of so-called agribusiness clusters. These clusters are defined as a collaboration between all actors needed to build profitable value chains (producers and their organizations, input suppliers, finance suppliers, processors – warehousing – value addition, traders – buyers – market-parties, business development services, others).  The agribusiness cluster approach is designed to support rural smallholders move from subsistence to farming as a business by a sustainable improvement in productivity and quality leading to marketable surpluses to increase family incomes.

The Regional Agribusiness Coordinator will lead  the  identification of profitable agricultural market opportunities and  local business service providers who can support agribusiness clusters that want to target profitable agricultural market opportunities, the facilitation of discussions between value-chain actors that lead to formal contractual agreements that are mutually beneficial to the parties involved, and the provision of support to value chain actors in business plan development.

Required Skills
    * Senior (10+ years) agriculture professional with experience in the private agri-food sector in Africa; extensive knowledge of the agribusiness environment in Africa
    * University level education and field experience in agronomy or other agricultural sciences, agricultural economics, marketing, international development, business management, or related field
    * Proven management skills: experienced in business plan development, project management, reporting, and budget management
    * Implementation experience and strong management skills to oversee large, geographically dispersed teams and working in tandem with both local and international partners. Previous experience as project leader is desirable
    * An inspiring hands-on manager with proven leadership and strategic planning capabilities
    * Fluency in both English and French
    * Team player, inspirer, team builder, communicator; excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with effective and persuasive writing and public speaking
    * An experienced traveler able to work in multicultural environment
    * Computer literate

 
Required Experience

Programmatic and Technical
    * Set strategic and technical direction for the project.
    * Provide supervision, support, and direction to long- and short-term staff (10-20) staff to achieve the results of the project.  
    * Review and approve all project deliverables and documents.
    * Monitor project indicators, evaluate program results and make recommendations for improvement in program implementation.
    * Prepare annual work plans and progress reports, and monitor the implementation of these plans. Prepare and submit 6 months progress reports on progress of activities and achievement of program results.

Communication and Outreach
    * Represent the project publically.
    * Establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with IFDC, the donor, collaborating partners, government officials and the private sector in participating countries.

Financial and Administrative
    * Oversee implementation of all business cluster activities in accordance with IFDC’s established rules and procedures.
    * Oversee and be responsible for financial and administrative aspects of the project including managing the budget. Develop annual budgets for agribusiness clusters and monitor expenditures at cluster level, ensuring compliance with established IFDC procedures and donor regulations.
    * Ensure quality of partner contracts and their smooth handling
    * Participate in regular field visits to the project areas to assure project progress towards activity objectives and goals.
    * Coordinate and communicate on a regular basis with the overall project leader and IFDC’s Headquarters.
