Position : Nutrition Coordinator

Job Description

As a member of the SPRING Team, the Nutrition Coordinator will work under the direction of the SPRING/Nigeria Nutrition Advisor in the day-to-day successful implementation of the SPRING/Nigeria Project at the State level.
Overall, the Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for the support and capacity building of the LOPIN partners (including CSOs) and the Government counterpart.

Key Areas of Accountability

Ensure the day-to-day implementation of the work plan activities in the State and provide input into the development, on-going management and maintenance of work plan.
Provide technical support to the LOPIN partners and Government counterpart to build their capacity to implement IYCF activities and to ensure that agreed targets are met.
Responsible for facilitation of trainings, support State level planning and activities for World Breastfeeding week and other nutrition activities as agreed in the annual work plan.
Under the Supervision of Nutrition Advisor, manage the preparation, coordination, and execution for special technical events, such as trainings
Participate in meetings, seminars, debriefings and other technical meetings.
Compile State level reports on project results, case studies and lessons learned.
Develop State level annual, quarterly and monthly work plans as agreed with the line manager.
Facilitate, draft, and participate in the development of, and/or the timely completion/review of SPRING technical reports, such as: monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports; strategic plans and work plans; and other ad hoc reports, as required.
Participate in the design and implementation of assessments and evaluation studies, trainings, and workshops.
Support the work of consultants in the States as needs arise.
Document technical team meetings, partner meetings, conferences, and workshops, so that notes are around to team members not in attendance and to SPRING/HQ.
Provide support on technical initiatives, including performing literature searches, investigating key issues, and contributing to technical activities as required.
Maintain good relationship with Government and Non-Government partners working on Nutrition in the State.
Represent SPRING in State level meetings such as SCFN, working groups, etc.
Perform other duties and tasks as determined by the SPRING/Nigeria Country Manager and Nutrition Advisor and other members of the SPRING staff, including coordination of travel and assisting SPRING/HQ staff when in country.
Comply with the requirements of Save the Children’s child protection policies; comply strictly with security procedures and other staff policies.

Skills & Experience

Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in the field of nutrition, health, or development
Experience working with an international NGO a plus
Interest in development issues
Strong computer skills required, especially the ability to work comfortably in the MS office package
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully in team environment
Demonstrated ability to assess priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality;
Strong organizational skills and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage various projects in a team setting, with limited supervision
Fluency in English and Yoruba
Experience working across multiple sub agreements and partners; ability to work well with people at all levels.
Strong initiative and self-motivation required, with a commitment to teamwork and effectiveness within a dynamic multi-disciplinary project.

 

Position : Head of Logistics - Nigeria

The Role

  • To lead on responding to and managing the growing needs within the Nigeria programme for effective core logistics capacity to support ongoing development programmes and emergency response interventions.
  • In this to ensure that all logistics policies and procedures of Save the Children are strictly adhered to and also to ensure that Save the Children's commitment to improving quality and accountability in development and humanitarian work is upheld, through reference to the Sphere Standards, Save the Children Quality Framework Essential Standards and the NGO Code of Conduct.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:

  • At least 7 years of International experience - of which at least 4 years with an INGO - in supply chain management, inclusive of procurement, transport and distribution, warehouse and stock management
  • Strong experience in vehicle and fleet management
  • Robust experience of NGO project cycle management and experience of working within a complex and matrix organisation structure
  • Master's Degree in Logistics, MBA or any other relevant degree coupled with good work experience in Logistics and supply chain management.
  • Experience of building and developing the capacity of logistics staff through the use of training, performance management frameworks and development plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills and capacities to plan and think strategically
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word platforms.

Desirable:

  • Experience in distributions of both NFIs and food items in emergency context
  • Working experience in Nigeria and/or West Africa

Position : Senior Newborn Health Specialist

  • The MCSP Senior Newborn Health Specialist will be responsible for providing technical leadership and support to Federal and State Ministries of Health as well as partner organizations on national level advocacy efforts for newborn health interventions, including the finalization and implementation of a national scale up plan for chlorhexidine.

Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate implementation, track, and report progress on the Chlorhexidine Scale-up Plan by providing technical support to FMOH and implementing partners at national and state-level.

This work could include:

  • Facilitate a mapping of the landscape of the current status of chlorhexidine implementation in Nigeria
  • In collaboration with USAID’s Center for Accelerating Innovation and Impact (CII), contribute to the development and implementation of a national scale up plan for chlorhexidine
  • Assist FMOH and SMOH to develop and institute a national monitoring and evaluation plan for chlorhexidine implementation within the context of newborn health programming
  • Work with FMOH to strengthen the coordinating mechanisms for chlorhexidine implementation within existing FMOH structures
  • Participate in and support the integration of chlorhexidine programming into key relevant national health technical working groups and/or steering committees
  • Work with relevant FMOH/NPHCDA teams to generate national demand for the use of chlorhexidine through the adaptation and development of key BCC messages and other communication tools
  • In collaboration with FMOH and partners, lead the planning and conduct of advocacy visits to the remaining states and firm up plans to provide support to the states for the development of their action plans to implement the new chlorhexidine policy

  • Support FMOH and SMOH in increasing awareness of the policy change for care of the umbilical stump using 4% chlorhexidine gel through the engagement of Tertiary Institutions, Pre-service training institutions, Professional Regulatory bodies, MDAs, Pharmaceutical Council, community pharmacies, and Patent Medicine Vendors associations, on the distribution of chlorhexidine.
  • Support FMOH and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) to integrate chlorhexidine application knowledge and competency in all relevant MNCH training and counseling materials
  • Work with NAFDAC to ensure the final certification of the manufacturers to provide additional sources for the gel.
  • Participate in regular global Chlorhexidine Working Group meetings in order to be up to date on global level information and activities as they relate to the Nigeria context
  • Support the ongoing advocacy within the national TSU for the adoption of simplified antibiotics for neonatal sepsis management
  • Facilitate and participate in regular Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Review (MPDSR) Steering Committee Meetings
  • Collaborate with Saving Newborn Lives (SNL) to ensure approval of the integrated MPDSR guidelines by the National Council of Health and support national review of MDR and PNDA implementation in Nigeria.
  • In collaboration with SNL, contribute to the development of the national KMC operational guidelines and advocate for the adoption of the guidelines in non-MCSP states.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Healthcare and management experience (MBA, MD, MPA, MPH, MD, or MBBS) with a post graduate qualification in Public Health, Business, Pediatrics or related field preferred
  • Substantial experience in public health program management administrative and advisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop a network of contacts with key players from amongst government, donors, international agencies and NGOs, to maintain these relationships over time and to support mobilization of significant funding from donors. Existing public and private health relationships strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with existing national policies, guidelines and programs in the context of newborn health in Nigeria.
  • Technical expertise in newborn health and experience in providing technical support to partners, particularly government at senior levels preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels. Presentation and training skills, along with tact and diplomacy are essential.
