IRC entered Nigeria in October 2012 in response to a widespread flood disaster. Since then, the IRC has expanded its scope and size of the programs as new areas became accessible after prolonged conflict and insecurity, in Adamawa and Borno States.

The IRC’s response to the humanitarian situation includes integrated health and nutrition services, as well as reproductive health care and women protection services. In 2015 IRC Nigeria developed a five-year long term Strategy Action Plan. The plan has Health, Education and Economic Wellbeing as high priority program areas.

POSITION : SEL Curriculum Development Manager

DESCRIPTION

The IRC is the technical lead on social and emotional learning (SEL) strand of this project. The 36 week non-formal education curriculum focuses on literacy, numeracy and SEL and IRC have led on the development of the SEL scope and sequence and lesson plans, as well measuring the impact of SEL intervention.
A recent ECR model review report outlined recommendations to improve the SEL component in year three which includes review and development of SEL lesson plans.
Creation of 68 SEL lesson plans. This is a short-term, six week position.

Responsibilities

The SEL Curriculum Development Specialist will develop 68 SEL lesson plans, with technical support from the Education Technical Unit’s SEL Specialist.

Specific responsibilities include:

Familiarization with the Scope & Sequence to understand the logical sequencing of learning objectives.
Draft 68 SEL lesson plans to be delivered for review in a series of sets, as agreed with the supervisor
Ensure all lesson plans are of high technical quality and written in clear, easy to understand language
Submit lesson plans electronically to SEL Specialist for review
Incorporate feedback and changes from TU and field teams
Be available for conference calls on materials development with the TU team as needed
Submit final package of 68 reviewed lesion plans

Internal: CYPD Coordinator and relevant Regional/HQ-based

Requirements

Master's degree in Education or related field.
Proven skills in curriculum development, particularly lesson plan development
Experience working in conflict or crisis affected environments
2 years of experience managing and/or advising on education programs in conflict or post-conflict contexts.
Knowledge in social and emotional learning and/or child psychology / child development
Written communication skills in English
IRC experience preferred
