Our client is looking to staff a project office for a government empowerment program. Hence, we are looking for a competent and dedicated individual for one year contract position for the role of;

 

Job Title: Manager, Media and Communications

                                                                               

Job Location: FCT, Abuja (ideal applicants should be resident in Abuja. Applicants who are willing to relocate to Abuja are welcome. However, please note there is no consideration for relocation allowance)

 

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Directly reports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Directly supervises: Vendor/Media Agency, Media Monitoring/verification Team

 

JOB PURPOSE

• To give strategic direction and leadership to all aspects of the program’s communication, publicity and brand management process

• To promote the highest standards of professionalism and ethos within the brand management function of the program and strategically ensuring the most effective use of resources in support of project objectives

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AREAS

Management/Administrative Responsibilities

1. Oversee response to media enquiries, interviews etups, media logistics management at events and closely monitoring all media coverage of the program.

2. Maintain the program’s database of media contacts, and identifying gaps in the program’s engagement with specific outlets and platforms and seeking to develop new relationships.

3. Identify opportunities for press coverage around events and specific publications and working with colleagues to develop targeted media strategies, including drafting press releases and pitching op-eds.

4. Oversee the distribution of media resources (press releases and invitations) to stakeholders, and working to make this form of communication more targeted and effective.

 

Technical/Professional Responsibilities

1. Serve as a key media contact and work actively with the program’s Brand Management Vendor to enhance and cultivate relationships with the media, particularly within top tier business press and leading trade publications, and facilitate media interviews with leadership.

2. Oversee the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy aligned to the program’s priorities and operating plan for outreach, impact and feedback.

3. Build and manage a high-performance communications function that is structured, and focused for productive and quality work.

4. Engage and participate in client-facing activities (e.g. conference participation, sponsorships) to further strengthen the program’s brand in the marketplace.

5. Prepare spokespeople and project leaders for media interviews and speaking engagements by creating detailed briefing books - including key messages and talking points - and providing refresher media training as appropriate, facilitating and coordinating more in-depth media training for spokespeople when required.

6. Manage external PR agency resources.

 

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

• Key deliverables are produced within agreed timeframes to required standards.

• Management reports are comprehensive and submitted within established timeframe.

• Quality and relevance of reach

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Academic and Professional:

• First degree (or its equivalent) in English, Communications, Journalism, Social Management Science or a related field.

• A Master’s degree and/or Professional Certification would be an added advantage.

 

Experience:

• Five or more years of experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial/supervisory position

• Experience in the Public relations and in similar functional area is an added advantage.

Proposed Salary:

Ranges between N350, 000 - N420, 000 monthly (based on experience) for the one year contract duration.
