Job description

  •     The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for financial strategy development and execution for the integration of both business on the long and short-term, Manage day-to-day finance and trading transactions, ensuring adequacy of funding/liquidity for spot trades and term contracts and also ensures overall effective treasury management activities. Budgeting, financial performance monitoring, strategic business planning, appropriate compliance and reporting are also key functions.
  •     The candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and be based in Lagos.


Responsibilities

STRATEGIC

  •     Develops and articulate a comprehensive financial strategy for the business based on business growth and plans.
  •     Acts as main advisor and strategist providing needed support to the CEO, employees and Board with respect to the identification of financial and operational risk, and the resolution of attendant issues.
  •     Works with Strategic/Financing Partners to develop and structure the most effective financing options/solutions and models for the business as it grows.
  •     Supports the CEO in managing strategic key relationships with Financial, Technical and Operating partners to ensure strong and effective alliances are maintained for the growth of the trading business.
  •     Monitors the present and future capital requirements of the organization; reviews and periodically determines the long-and short-term financial objectives and policies and provides guidance/advice to Executive Management about all proposals concerning major financial policies ( dividend, fiscal and financing) of the Company, including but not limited to policies relating to the Company’s cash needs, shareholder distributions, share repurchases and investment
  •     Communicates/reports key information to the Board of Directors and other internal/external stakeholders as regards regulatory issues, marketplace needs, the competitive environment, business performance and other pertinent issues.


OPERATIONAL

  •     Ensures the effective integration of the Company’s strategic plan with its trading activities and day-to-day operations and in so doing regularly interfaces with Strategic Business Partners to determine areas of mutual collaboration towards the achievement of goals.
  •     Develops and implements effective Trade Finance, Financial Management and Accounting systems, processes, procedures and policies which provide effective controls in the deployment and utilization of capital.
  •     Manages the company’s Assets and liabilities position to ensure current knowledge of the Company’s cost funds and product pricing requirements; oversees regular banking and treasury transactions and ensures adequate funds/liquidity levels are maintained to support daily trades and business operations; ensures future net cash flows remain positive on a day-to-day basis.
  •     Manages the company’s asset, debt, cost and profitability position and establishes an appropriate frame work for the prompt rendition of returns/dividends to investors, and for repayments of short and long-term debt (monitors/manages facilitates with financial institutions)
  •     Ensure the provision of timely, comprehensive and accurate Financial and  Management Accounts that support decision making process.
  •     Oversees the adequacy and soundness of the organisation’s financial structure and manages local and international investor relationships; directs and coordinates the formulation of financial programs and funding for new/continuing trades and operations towards increasing productivity & optimising the use of capital, and maximising returns.
  •     Monitors market trends, competitor activities & consumer preferences and positions.
  •     Ensures compliance with industry, regulatory and Company’s policies and procedures
  •     Respond to Audit/Examination queries as may be required from time to time.
  •     Oversees development, implementation & maintenance of information technology of the company
  •   Provide regular management updates/reports for CEO and Board of Directors’ attention
  •     Defines financial targets (cash flow, ROI, PBT etc.) and ensures the sourcing of external debt and equity financing required to support the company’s long-term growth and stability
  •     Establishes and maintains an effective financial management framework covering treasury, tax planning, financial control and management information systems (MIS) processes that support the company’s mission and business objectives and enable the effortless production of relevant periodic report.
  •     Builds strong and value-adding relationships with financing partners (local & offshore banks) and represents the company to the external Financing community through effective communications, participation in workshops and other events.
  •     Plans and coordinates the activities of statutory examiners and manages relevant 3rd party relationships (e.g. with bankers and regulatory authorities)
  •     Performs other assigned duties as delegated by the CEO from time to time


Qualifications and experience

  •     1st degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting or other related area.
  •     Knowledge of trading (paper & physical)
  •     10 - 15 years cognate work experience in Financial / Management Accounting, the last 7 – 10 years must have been in management role in a reputable and structured business environment, preferably in a Nigerian or International Oil & Gas Company
  •     Ability to network and form high profile relationships with key people in various parts of the economy (government, regulatory bodies, NNPC, DPR, key customer groups etc.)
  •     Ability to influence the direction of national policy
  •     Knowledge of taxation & Risk Management
  •     An MBA and prior exposure in downstream marketing and trading operations is a strong advantage
  •     Oral & Written Communication
