JOB TITLE: Head Litigation & Dispute Management

JOB LOCATION: Lagos
JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for all Litigation matters concerning Airtel Networks Limited with responsibility at Head office and across all regions.
Reporting directly to the Legal Director.
Monitoring AND Implementation of proactive alternative dispute resolution mechanism:
- Receive all disputes against the Company as may arise from the Companys operations
- Formulate a resolution strategy for the approval of the Legal Director
- Implement the approved resolution strategy and obtain the best settlement deal for the Company
- Alternatively, advise the Company on when and on what terms to close negotiations
Other Dimensions
- Indication of some of the significant volumes associated with the job like number in team/ staff handled subscriber base
- Currently the volume of cases is in the region of 232 cases.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Interfaces and liaises with external counsel in all litigation matters
- Receive all court processes on behalf of the Company
- Initiate court proceedings through external counsel to protect the rights of the Company, as may be required
- Recommend to Legal Director external counsel to represent Company after reviewing competence, track record and proficiency with regards to the particular matter.
- Formulate case management strategy with external counsel for the approval of the Legal Director
- Monitor compliance and adherence of external counsel to case management strategy
- Review outcomes with documented expectations and formulate remedial actions in case of unexpected outcomes
- Ensure execution/enforcement of judgments that are favourable to the Company
- Manage the team of external counsels throughout
- Alternatively, take all steps as are necessary to prevent the execution of any judgment, order or award against the Company or against representatives of the Company
- Implementation of effective legal Risk Management practices
- Implement efficient monitoring system for risk reporting and management of cases
- Maintain a log of risks flagged and reported by various units to the Legal Directorate
- Liaise with relevant business units and make recommendations to Management with regard to managing, avoiding or terminating such risks
- Prepare a report of risk management recommendations to Internal Audit for
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Educational Qualifications & Functional / Technical Skills
- Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL);
- Master of Laws (LLM) degree may be an added advantage
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 7 years post qualification experience with a reputable law firm
- Minimum 5 years experience in the commercial legal environment
- Candidate must have up-to-date knowledge of including, but not limited to, Nigerian Law, Case Law, Court Rules and Processes, Case Management, Legal Risk Management, ,Dispute Resolution, People and Resources management, Management of Law Enforcement Agencies / Governmental Agencies
BEHEAVIOURAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to manage the litigation portfolio and give advice to Management as required;
- Ability to work diligently and efficiently;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Ability to travel often and at short notice;
- Sound Computer skills (including word processing, use of databases and search tools);
- Verbal and Written Communication skills;
- Ability for strong follow up and attention to detail;

- People management skills;
