Job Description

The responsibilities of HSSE Manager include, but are not limited to the following,

  • HSSE Manager will manage the health, safety, environmental and security performance in all operations to meet company, industry, national, and international standards of performance as appropriate.
  • Continue development and implementation of the HSSE management system including:
    • - Development of HSSE processes and procedures,
    • - Develop and implement audit and monitoring processes,
    • - Develop and implement accident/incident reporting and investigation,
    • - Prepare routine HSSE reports for company operations
    • - Develop HSSE Strategies and Standardisation across all operations.
  • Create and promote a HSSE-aware culture.
  • Recruit and develop the HSSE team to meet company developing requirements.
  • Represent the company on HSSE issues at various company, industry and government forums
  • Provide support to operations teams to help them achieve HSSE performance targets.
  • Provide risk assessments for regions, operations and new ventures
  • Liaise with other operators on operational matters such as security, emergency response and environmental issues.
  • Supervise and manage the Training, Environmental and Security Managers/coordinators
  • Supervise and the Community Relations Manager for integrated HSSE strategies.
  • Maintain an interface with the HSSE Department in head office through reporting, investigation of incidents, strategic planning, conferences and open communications.
  • Deliver presentations to Board and departments as necessary
  • High level of job focus on Exploration and Drilling operations
  • Will be responsible for liaising with various community and governmental groups and leaders in order to effectively gather information and develop relationships.
  • Will oversee investigations on all claims and issues arising from local operations, ensure community development plans are aligned with field activities and coordinate sustainable development projects with local communities.

Requirements and Qualification

  • HSSE Manager will have MSc in Engineering, HSSE or oil and gas related subjects. Internationally recognised Diplomas in HSE or Security related subjects including,
    • - Risk Assessment
    • - Incident Response and Investigation
    • - HSE Auditing
    • - NEBOSH, IOSH or industry equivalent qualifications
    • - Risk Assessment
  • Ability to lead and develop HSSE team across various cultures, geographical areas and operations
  • Fluent in English with French an advantage,
  • Well developed HSSE skills and experience required, particularly in developing nations, with a clear understanding of upstream operations and the business drivers.
  • Excellent communicator both internally within the technical and operations groups and externally with government,
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, able to influence behaviours and thinking.
  • Capable presentational and negotiating skills
  • Exposure to operations in developing countries is essential as is exposure to establishing HSSE systems.
  • 15 to 20 years experience in managing Health and Safety in the Oil and Gas industry with at least 5 years experience as a HSSE Manager, including the development and implementation of management systems and training.
  • Strong experience in managing subcontractors and service providers.
  • Intensive, fast-track development and production operations – onshore.
  • Introduction and implementation of new processes, procedures, and practices in a relatively new corporate structure.
  • Development of the national HSSE team to assume an influential role in the company.
  • A legacy of community relation challenges onshore.
  • A strong ability to develop and implement unique approaches to HSSE
  • Strong leadership and integrity in the field of HSSE
  • A positive and dynamic approach to HSSE is vital. Must have a strong operational focus.
  • Must have relevant experience of working within community relations, social investment and other governmental issues
